“The cleanest hotel I’ve ever stayed in—and one of Sarasota’s best-kept secrets.”
Carlisle Inn completely exceeded my expectations. The entire property smelled amazing, someone always seemed to be cleaning, our room was huge, and every person we interacted with was genuinely friendly. Even the complimentary breakfast felt like something they cared about getting right—yes, there was a pancake bar.
It’s set in a quieter part of Sarasota, but it’s hardly inconvenient: roughly 7 miles from Lido Beach and just over 8 miles from Siesta Key. For the space, cleanliness, service, and price, this is one of the easiest hotels for me to recommend. It feels far more polished than what you’d expect to pay for it.

“Modern, downtown, and just boujee enough.”
I loved the gorgeous room, bayfront view, elevated outdoor pool, and the complimentary breakfast with a made-to-order omelet station.
The downside is parking. Valet was effectively required during my stay, and it was not cheap. I would stay again if I wanted to be downtown, but I would budget for that extra expense before booking.

This is the practical pick: a basic, comfortable room, free breakfast, and generally reasonable pricing. The little pond behind the hotel is a surprisingly nice touch—I have even seen otters there.
It is not the hotel I would choose for a luxury getaway, but it works well when the room is mostly your clean, comfortable home base.

Is it better to stay downtown Sarasota or near the beach?
Stay downtown if restaurants, rooftop bars, marina views, and a more polished city feel matter most. Stay near the beach if you want sand and sunsets to be the center of the trip.
For the easiest mix of both, I’d start with Lido Key. You get the beach, St. Armands Circle, and relatively easy access back into downtown Sarasota.
Is Lido Key or Siesta Key better for a first Sarasota trip?
I’d choose Lido Key for most first-time visitors. It gives you a beautiful beach, sunsets, walkability around St. Armands Circle, and convenient access to downtown.
Choose Siesta Key when the famous white sand and relaxed island atmosphere are the main reasons you are coming.
What is the most luxurious area to stay in Sarasota?
Longboat Key is my pick for a true luxury escape. It is quieter, more resort-focused, and home to properties such as The St. Regis Longboat Key Resort and The Resort at Longboat Key Club.
Downtown also has luxury options, especially The Ritz-Carlton, but Longboat feels more like a complete resort vacation.
Where should couples stay in Sarasota?
Lido Key is the easiest romantic choice for couples who want beach time, sunsets, dinner, drinks, and shopping within the same area.
For something quieter and more luxurious, choose Longboat Key. For nightlife and rooftop drinks, downtown Sarasota makes more sense.
Where should families stay in Sarasota?
Siesta Key is a strong family choice because of the beach, easygoing atmosphere, casual restaurants, and classic Florida vacation feel.
Families who care more about space, breakfast, and value than staying directly on the beach should also consider Carlisle Inn or Comfort Suites Sarasota–Siesta Key.
Do I need a car while staying in Sarasota?
For most Sarasota trips, yes. Downtown itself can be walkable, and parts of Lido Key work well on foot, but a car gives you much more freedom to move between downtown, Lido, Siesta, and Longboat Key.
Before booking, also check the hotel’s parking policy. Some downtown hotels charge for parking or rely heavily on valet.
How far is downtown Sarasota from the beaches?
Lido Beach is generally the easiest beach to reach from downtown. Siesta Key takes a little longer, especially when traffic is heavier.
The distances are manageable, but Sarasota traffic can make a short drive feel longer during busy weekends and peak season.
Is Longboat Key too far from everything?
Not if your goal is a quieter resort vacation. Longboat Key works best when you are happy spending time at the beach, pool, spa, resort restaurants, and nearby waterfront spots.
It is less convenient for travelers who plan to spend every night downtown or want to constantly bounce between different parts of Sarasota.
